About
Hi! My name is Vasya or Basil — when I speak Slavic languages, it’s Vasya, and when I speak other languages, it’s Basil.
I have always been interested in technical things — in the kind of magic you can create with technology to make people happy or surprise them. For many years, I still haven’t been able to choose what I really want to do: be a technical person, because I know how to do that, or be an artist and do creative work with text, languages, translation, and social sciences, as my studies always were related to liberal arts.
So somehow I try to unite these two sides of myself. I use my technical knowledge to support projects that I like because of their position, values, or simply because I love what they are doing. Technical work is my hard skill, and I like using it to help creative projects happen.
As for some of my hobbies, I love cooking, and probably someday I will host a cooking show — that would be my dream. But I would want it to be not only about food, but especially about cooking together and collecting the stories of the people I meet, as well as my friends and family.
After emigrating because of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, food and the process of cooking became a safe place for me — something I can share with anyone, even if we don’t have a common language or are meeting each other for the first time.
